What separates you from the rest of the millions of creatives out there isn’t necessarily your skills. What separates you is why you love doing what you do.
So, I wanted to share a glimpse of behind the scenes and why I love being a brand and web designer for textile creatives.
Women Supporting Women
My business journey started with this exact phrase, women supporting women, at my local YWCA. I participated in a couple of locally run business courses which got me started with my first clients. Some of my first clients were other women also participating in the class, including a small handmade jeweller, a woman who runs her family farm, and another who creates sensory toolboxes for special needs children.
It amazed me what these other women created and the ideas of products and services they wanted to put out into the world. They were making beautiful amazing things, and I was inspired to do what I could to help them achieve their goals.
Fast forward a couple of years, when I wanted to pinpoint further what industry I wanted to work with.
I recently decided to focus my business entirely on helping textile creatives. Why? Because I am also a needlewoman. I understand the dedication, patience and craft that goes into making raw materials into beautiful quilts, hoops, sweaters and socks. I love that my business allows me to work with and collaborate with other creative women. I am always amazed at the things that my clients create! And sometimes I think that I get just as excited as they do about their products.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
I am not shy about the fact their your business is like your child. It is your baby. You put your heart and soul into moulding it just how you envision it. So, another part that I love is that people trust me, little ol’ me, to help them craft their tailored brand and website. I can be invited into the process of them aligning, branding, and bringing to fruition their dream. Whether they have an existing business that they need to rebrand and tweak a few things to align better with the growth of their business, or if they are just starting their journey.
I love working as a team with my clients to brainstorm, align with their goals and ultimately craft a tailored brand that is unique to them.
Ultimately, I am honoured to help them put a face to the name of their business.
It’s all about the big picture.
Knitting. Crocheting. Needlework. Quilting. What do all of these hobbies and skills have in common? Big Picture Thinking. I have always enjoyed hobbies that involve taking small things and putting them together to form one common goal. For instance, with knitting or crochet, you take a giant ball of yarn (or a few…) and some wooden or metal tools, follow a process, with a lot of patience and ta-da, you have a sweater!
Branding and website design are very similar. During the process, I strategically craft together small pieces that align with your business goals, which could increase your sales, connect with your customers, or even be more recognizable in the long run.
I love that I can piece together strategic colours, fonts, imagery, print materials, such as a business or thank you card, and a website to help my clients align with the big picture they have in their head for their business.
Live my Passion.
As you might already know, or if you follow me on Instagram (@broadbentdesignstudio), you may have noticed that I am a very passionate person. I refuse to live a life with regrets and try to live every day, which flows over into my business.
I am very passionate about design. I love learning new things, seeing the latest trends, and that the design industry is constantly evolving. I am always trying to improve my skills, processes and systems to run like a well-oiled sewing machine.
But mostly, I am passionate about the creative process and how it can provide unique solutions to my clients. I love implementing brand strategy processes to help my clients achieve their goals and elevate their business. I thrive on delivering unique out-of-the-box solutions that fit into a specific scope, such as a tight print budget or another particular problem your business might have that I can help. I love that I can rise to the challenge to make designs that work, not just look pretty.
Calling the Shots.
Lastly, I love doing what I do because it allows me to support my family on my terms. Being an entrepreneur allows me to call the shots.
I sometimes think that entrepreneurs are their own species of human because it takes a unique person to strive to work 24/7 instead of working 9-5 for someone else. But I love having my options. I love having the freedom to work when, where and with whom I want.
I can work from my couch with a client from British Columbia in the morning.
Or flesh out an idea in bed at night when inspiration hits.
I love that I have time to do my many other passions and hang out with my friends and family. I love gardening, knitting socks for my grandpa, and going on adventures with my husband, James, and our little Shorkie, Eleanor.
I love that there are endless possibilities, and the sky is the limit.
Being an entrepreneur is no walk in the park, but it is a beautiful, messy journey that I enjoy every minute of, even the frustrating moments. I love that I can do what I love to do. I love collaborating with other creative women and help them in their business with big picture thinking and creative problem-solving.
I love working with women that are as passionate as I am. Suppose you are a textile business owner with a passion for life and creativity and would love to work together to craft your tailored brand or website. Schedule a consultation call with me to see how we can work together!
